Progress of Ongoing Upgrading of Rumwe–Skyline Crescent Road [Photos]

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has given an update on the ongoing upgrading of the Rumwe–Skyline Crescent Road in Kikuyu constituency. 

In a statement on Sunday, August 30, PS Omollo said the road project, which is being implemented by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), is nearing completion. 

The Interior PS noted that ongoing works include drainage works, footpaths and road furniture. 

“In Kikuyu Constituency, the upgrading of the Rumwe–Skyline Crescent Road to bitumen standards is bringing this principle to life, extending modern infrastructure to residents who have long relied on an all-weather connection. 

“Spearheaded by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), the project is nearing completion, with drainage works, footpaths and road furniture currently being installed,” read the statement in part. 

PS Omollo highlighted that the Rumwe–Skyline Crescent road will ease movement and improve accessibility once completed. 

“As a vital suburban connector, the road will ease movement, improve accessibility and strengthen links to homes, businesses and essential services,” he stated. 

This comes days after PS Omollo issued an update on the ongoing construction of the Kenyatta Avenue viaduct. 

In a statement on Thursday, August 27, PS Omollo said the project is making steady progress. 

He noted that the construction of the viaduct has entered the superstructure phase, with reinforced concrete piers and pier caps completed. 

“Construction has now entered the superstructure phase, with reinforced concrete piers and pier caps completed and precast girders being placed across the piers to form the primary structural members that will carry the elevated roadway,” PS Omollo said. 

According to the Interior PS, the elevated road is designed to bypass major traffic bottlenecks between the Nairobi CBD and Upper Hill, improving mobility while opening up new opportunities for commerce and investment.

Omollo also mentioned that the overpass will incorporate cycle lanes and pedestrian walkways to promote safer and more inclusive movement while strengthening connectivity within Nairobi's wider urban transport network.
