A police officer is on the run after allegedly shooting and killing a 45-year-old woman at the General Service Unit (GSU) Mess compound in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County.

A police officer is on the run after allegedly shooting and killing a 45-year-old woman at the General Service Unit (GSU) Mess compound in Naiberi, Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County. 

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, at around 5 pm, after the woman reportedly got into a dispute with a police constable who was armed with a rifle. 

Police officers who visited the scene established that the woman was at the GSU Mess compound taking alcohol when the confrontation occurred.

According to a report made at the station by S/Sgt Ronald Cheruiyot, attached to GSU Camp Eldoret, the incident was reported at around 5:30 pm under OB No. 19/30/08/2026.

The deceased was identified as Doris Murei Nandi, a female adult aged 45 years.

Police said she had a dispute with PC Nathan Kirwa before the officer allegedly shot her with a rifle, killing her instantly.

The report indicates that senior police officers from Uasin Gishu County and Ainabkoi, together with detectives, the Scene of Crime Management Unit, STAPOL Naiberi and other police officers from Naiberi visited the scene following the shooting.

Seven spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene, alongside a Toyota Corolla 110 motor vehicle bearing registration number KAR 371U and a rifle holster, all of which are suspected to belong to the officer.

Police processed the scene before the woman's body was removed and taken to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Kirwa reportedly fled the scene after the shooting and remains at large as police continue efforts to trace and arrest him.

This comes months after two police officers were arrested following a shooting incident at a nightclub in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

According to a police report from Eldoret Police Station, the incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club on Friday, May 8, after two men entered the establishment and ordered food and alcoholic drinks.

The nightclub’s manager, Peter Mugo, reported that the two continued drinking until about 9.00 pm when an altercation broke out between them and a waiter. 

The disagreement quickly escalated, with one of the men allegedly becoming violent, drawing a pistol and firing a single round of ammunition inside the premises.

Bouncers at the nightclub moved quickly and managed to disarm the suspect before the situation could worsen. 

Police were then alerted, prompting the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Eldoret Police Station to lead a team of officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers arrested the two suspects and secured a Ceska pistol, serial number KP KE G8262, which was loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition. 

Investigators also recovered one spent cartridge from the scene.
