Why I Dropped Makadara MP Bid – Passaris

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has explained that she abandoned her Makadara constituency parliamentary bid following consultations with Nairobi residents and the ODM Party leadership. 

In a statement on Monday, August 31, Passaris said Nairobi residents urged her to vie for the Woman Representative position again in the 2027 General Election. 

Passaris noted that serving Nairobi residents was a responsibility she had embraced wholeheartedly and that the feedback from her supporters influenced her to seek another term.

“My desire to serve Makadara was genuine, but everywhere I went across Nairobi, the message was the same: What about us? Don’t we matter? We don’t want to lose you as our Woman Rep, Mama,” Passaris stated. 

The Nairobi Woman Rep also said she consulted ODM party leadership and considered opinion polls before deciding to drop her Makadara MP bid.

“So when that call came from the people, and was reaffirmed through consultations with my Party, ODM party leadership, feedback from Nairobi residents and opinion polls, the direction became clear,” she said. 

Further, Passaris said she intends to keep the Nairobi Woman Rep seat within the broad-based coalition. 

“Baba built this party for 20 years. He left us in broad-based, and I intend to do my part to keep this seat within broad-based as the ODM's and the Broad-based Candidate for Nairobi County Woman Representative,” she added. 

On Saturday, August 22, Passaris announced that she will seek a third term as the Nairobi Woman Representative in the August 2027 General Elections.

Passaris formally launched her bid alongside her new campaign song, which endorses her for a third term.

"My name is Esther Muthoni Passaris, and in 353 days, I will be defending my seat as the Nairobi County Woman Representative in the 2027 General Election," the Woman Rep announced. 

In February, Passaris had declared she would run for MP, stating it would offer her an opportunity to contribute significantly to the constituency's development. 

She admitted that she picked Makadara over Westlands because the seat would be vacant, since the incumbent MP, George Aladwa, had whispered to her that he would run for Nairobi Governor.
