NTSA confirmed that it had summoned nine PSV operators from across the country.

On Monday, August 31, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) confirmed that it had summoned nine public service Vehicle (PSV) operators from across the country.

NTSA explained that the companies have been ordered to appear before it because they had committed serious safety concerns.

One of the operators summoned is Manchester Travellers Coach Limited, whose PSVs operate within Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.

"In exercising its powers, the Authority has summoned several public service vehicle operators after observing serious safety concerns," the notice read in part.

NTSA instructed the leadership of Moyale Transporters Company to avail itself to the Authority's offices on Thursday, September 3. All the other eight are required to honour their summons on September 8.

These include Etams Classic Limited, Eastern Link Travellers Company Limited, Lake Naivasha Maii-Mahiu Line Service Limited and Sabaki Travellers Saving and Cred Co-operative Society Limited.

Other operators due to appear before the Authority are Lumasa County Sacco, Bluemarks Shuttles Sacco Limited and Nyamira Luxury Express Company Limited.

NTSA stated that the summoned companies could contact them for enquiries and support about the summons via email. 

The summons came barely a month after NTSA announced a crackdown targeting public transport vehicles in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS), County Transport and Safety Committees, and other stakeholders.

The Authority conducted random inspections of PSVs and conducted inspection to determine the roadworthiness of the vehicles. PSVs were assessed to determine if they had functional speed governors, safety belts, tyre condition, and functional headlights.
