The President's relatives are in court over eight high-end properties in Muthaiga estate believed to be worth millions of shillings.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother-in-law Udi Gecaga and his step mother Margaret Gacigi Gecaga are embroiled in a court battle over the ownership of eight high-end properties in Nairobi’s Muthaiga estate.

A past court order has given Udi the right to administer the properties left by his late father Bethuel Gecaga, but his step mother moved to the Court of Appeal challenging the decision.

In her appeal, Margaret argues that the properties in question are matrimonial, meaning she has right over them.

She challenged the transfer of the properties to Udi, arguing that her late husband was not in a position to actualize the alleged transfer.

According to her, her late husband suffered Alzheimer’s disease associated with memory loss; therefore he could not authorize the transfer.

Margaret wants the transfer scrutinized as she believes the transfer may have been forged to lock her out of the high-end properties.

She notes that if the High Court is maintained it will create fear among widows over the security of their matrimonial property.

Bethuel and Margaret got married in 2007, 28 years after the death of Jemima Gecaga; Bethuel’s first wife.

Udi is married to President Kenyatta’s sister Jeni Wambui. He is the father of Jomo and Nana Gecaga.

Jomo Gecaga works at State House as the Personal Assistant to the President, while Nana is the Chief Executive of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
