Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of Ksh31.2 million belonging to a retail chain.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 2, DCI said the two suspects, who are directors of Flexitech Group Limited, were arrested in the Roysambu area.

The arrest of the two directors followed investigations into a complaint filed by the retail chain.

“Two directors of Flexitech Group Limited have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of Sh31.2 million belonging to a leading retail chain.

“The suspects, Martin Kariuki Maina and Johnson Gituma Mwangi, were arrested by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office in the Roysambu area, following investigations into a complaint lodged by the retailer,” the statement read.

According to the investigative agency, the two suspects, who were acting as agents of the retailer, allegedly collected Ksh31,213,700.95 from customers who had purchased and collected goods from various branches of the retail chain.

The two suspects, allegedly acting jointly with other individuals, diverted the money for their own use.

“The funds had been entrusted to the suspects for onward remittance to the retailer. However, detectives established that the two, acting jointly with other suspects still at large, allegedly diverted the funds for their own use, in breach of the trust placed in them as agents,” DCI said.

The duo is currently in custody and is undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts.

DCI noted that the suspects are set to face charges of stealing by an agent, contrary to Section 283(b) of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing other suspects believed to have been involved in the alleged multimillion-shilling theft.

This comes a day after three suspects linked to a robbery at an M-Pesa shop in Katangi, Yatta Sub-County were arrested following a coordinated police operation.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 1, the DCI said the robbery occurred on May 15, 2026, when an M-Pesa attendant was robbed of Ksh169,000.

According to the agency, the arrests followed a tip-off from members of the public that enabled police officers from Katangi to move in quickly and apprehend one of the suspects at Katangi Shopping Centre.

Police subsequently expanded the operation to Yathui in Mwala Sub-County, where they tracked down two other suspects allegedly linked to the robbery.

The two were arrested while travelling in a white Toyota Corolla bearing registration number KDU 164G.

During the operation, police also recovered an M-Pesa till phone that had been stolen during the robbery.
