Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) leader Justin Muturi has distanced himself from a document circulating on social media purporting to be a joint press statement by leaders from Mt. Kenya East.
The document, dated September 2, 2026, is titled 'Enough Is Enough: Mt. Kenya East Will Not Be Used, Silenced, Dissolved or Dictated To - We Chart Our Own Course in 2027' and appears to bear the names and signatures of several political leaders from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi, including Muturi.
However, in a statement on Thursday, September 3, Muturi rejected the document as fraudulent, saying his name and signature were used without his consent.
"I have taken note of a document being circulated on social media and other platforms, purporting to be a joint press statement by leaders from Mt. Kenya East and bearing my name and signature," he wrote.
Muturi said the document was neither authored nor signed by him, insisting that he did not approve its publication or circulation.

"I wish to categorically state that this document is fake and fraudulent. I did not author it, I did not sign it, and I did not consent to its publication or circulation. The signature attributed to me has been forged," he added.
Muturi further linked the circulation of the document to what he described as efforts to undermine the growing political activity among Kenyans and opposition voices.
"We all know where such tactics come from. Those in government have become increasingly uncomfortable with the growing political awakening among Kenyans and the strengthening of voices from the opposition.
"They have resorted to propaganda, misinformation and now outright forgery in an attempt to manipulate the public and create imaginary disagreements among leaders," he further said.
Muturi said his political views would only be communicated through channels that he controls, distancing himself from statements issued through purported letters or anonymous social media accounts.
"My political position will never be communicated through forged letters or anonymous social media accounts. I will continue to speak for myself, and my position will always be communicated through my official channels," he noted.
Muturi also urged members of the public, journalists and political leaders to disregard the document and avoid further spreading what he termed false information.
"I call upon Kenyans, the media and political leaders not to be deceived by this malicious fabrication. Anyone who encounters this document should treat it with the contempt it deserves and refrain from giving further circulation to false information," he concluded.
Elsewhere, Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has warned United Opposition principals against admitting Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro into their camp.
Speaking on Thursday, September 3, Thang’wa accused the Kiharu MP of being a spy, alleging that Nyoro could listen to the plans of the opposition camp and relay them to President William Ruto
"We are telling Rigathi Gachagua and the other alternative government party leaders: Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua and Justin Muturi that Ndindi Nyoro is a spy.
"If you bring him in as a party leader, he will listen to your plans and report back to William Ruto," he claimed.
The allegations came hours after Nyoro dismissed claims of being a government mole in the opposition.
Speaking on Wednesday night, September 2, Nyoro said no opposition party has directly accused him of working against the coalition.
"I have not heard any leader directly accuse our party. If they do, I will come out and defend it," the Kiharu MP stated.
Nyoro also announced he will meet Rigathi Gachagua for a cup of tea after the former Deputy President returns from his tour of the United States.
The People's Party of Kenya leader noted that he and the former Deputy President are not enemies but friends.
"I have fair relationships with all opposition leaders, including Gachagua. I have a party to build; any collaboration with anyone within the opposition is what we are doing.
"I believe we are not competitors. When Gachagua comes back, I will go for tea; we are not enemies, we are friends," he added.
