12 Suspects Arrested After Attempting to Block Dignitaries’ Convoy in Siaya

Police Officers have arrested 12 suspects following an incident in which a group of rowdy youth allegedly attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 9, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the incident occurred on Tuesday shortly after the conclusion of a women’s economic empowerment function held at the Siaya KMTC grounds. 

“Law enforcement officers in Siaya have arrested 12 suspects following a chaotic incident in which a group of rowdy youth attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town.

“The incident occurred yesterday, September 8, 2026, shortly after the conclusion of a women’s economic empowerment function held at the Siaya KMTC grounds,” read the statement. 

According to the DCI, the convoy was heading to a designated landing and take-off site when a group of youth allegedly attempted to force their way through a secured gate.

The rowdy youth also allegedly hurled stones at police officers manning the entrance.

“As the convoy proceeded towards the designated landing and take-off site, a group of rowdy youth allegedly attempted to force their way through a secured gate, obstructing the convoy and hurling stones at police officers manning the entrance,” DCI stated. 

Police responded to the incident and managed to restore order before arresting 12 suspects believed to have been involved.

The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, DCI detectives are continuing with investigations to identify other individuals who were involved in the incident.

“The DCI reiterates that while citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves peacefully, violence, obstruction of lawful operations and attacks on police officers will not be tolerated,” the agency added. 

Elsewhere, police officers have arrested four suspects over harassing and extorting Chinese businessmen in Nyamakima, Nairobi. 

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said the police received reports on Tuesday night of a group of Kenyans harassing Chinese traders in Nyamakima. 

According to Mohamud, the group demanded to inspect their business and immigration documents.

They also allegedly demanded payments of up to Ksh300,000 from the Chinese traders in exchange for allowing them to continue running their businesses.

The Nairobi Police boss said officers responded promptly to the incident and arrested four suspects. 

“We received that report and responded promptly and arrested four suspects in connection with the offences,” he stated.
