Prophet Owuor's Church Responds to Claims of Pressure to Back Ruto

The Ministry of Repentance and Holiness has responded to claims that its leadership is being pressured to support President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a social media post on Thursday, September 10, Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia claimed that a senior Archbishop of the church had contacted him and alleged that the church leadership was being pushed to accompany the ministry’s leader, David Owuor, to State House.

"This morning, a senior Archbishop of the Repentance and Holliness Church has called me and openly told me that the church through it's leadership is being forced to go with the Mightiest Prophet of the Lord Dr. David Edward Owour to State House," he wrote.

Muhia further alleged that Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi was behind the alleged push, claiming that Sudi had linked his position to his mother’s membership in the church.

"The person driving this craze is Oscar Kipchumba Sudi who claims that his mother worships in that church so the church must go and committ to support William Samoei Ruto," he added.

Muhia also claimed that a significant section of the church leadership was opposed to the alleged State House visit

"About 80% of the leadership of the church has said no, but the visit, just like the PCEA one is being forced through the throats of the bishops, Senior Bishops, Archbishops and Senior Archbishops," he further said.

Muhia further accused those allegedly pushing for the visit of seeking to associate the church with the Ruto administration, arguing that the ministry had previously maintained its distance from political affairs.

"The church, especially the Repentance and Holiness church, has so far steered away from the oppression of Ruto and therefore forcing them to taint their image is extremely unfortunate," he concluded.

Responding to the claims, the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness General Overseer and Administrative Secretary dismissed any suggestion that the ministry or Prophet Owuor was taking a political position.

"I would like to make it very clear here that The Ministry of Repentance and Holiness and The Prophet of The Lord are neutral and not involved in politics," the statement read.

The church official said the ministry’s focus remained on its religious mission rather than political activities or support for any political leader.

"Our vision is that The Messiah is coming and our mission is to prepare a holy church for the glorious coming of The Messiah," the statement added.

This comes months after the church issued a statement following the circulation of a viral image on social media that allegedly depicts Prophet Owuor engaging in a WhatsApp conversation with God.

In a statement on Tuesday, February 10, the ministry dismissed the claim as a complete fabrication, warning the public against being misled by false and malicious content.

"It has come to our attention that a fabricated image is circulating on social media, falsely alleging that Prophet Dr. Owuor engages in WhatsApp communication with GOD. This claim is entirely false, baseless, and malicious," the statement read.

The statement further noted that Prophet Owuor has never suggested or displayed any such communication, adding that the material was intentionally created to mislead and mock the Christian faith.

"Prophet Dr. Owuor has never made, displayed, or alluded to any such communication. The circulating material is a deliberate fabrication intended to mislead the public, ridicule the Christian faith, and distract from the central message of repentance, holiness, and preparation for the coming of the Messiah," the statement added.

The ministry went on to caution members of the public and believers against amplifying the false claim by sharing it on their platforms.

"We urge the public and all believers to disregard this false narrative completely, refrain from sharing it, and avoid giving it any attention or platform," the statement concluded.
