Kindiki Breaks Silence on Violence at UDA Meeting in Embu

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has condemned violence that occurred during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party meeting in Nembure, Embu County.

In a statement on Saturday, September 12, Kindiki said the party regretted the loss and damage arising from the disruption of the meeting, which he attributed to youths who had been organized to interfere with the gathering.

"The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party regrets the loss and/damage brought about by those responsible for organizing the youth to disrupt our party meeting in Nembure, Embu earlier today," he wrote.

Kindiki said the incident was unacceptable and called on security agencies to take action against individuals involved in political violence.

"The Party condemns violence and demands that law enforcement agencies take punitive measures against all those responsible for perpetuating political violence," he added.

Kindiki further said UDA wanted political competition to focus on development records and policy proposals rather than confrontations and rhetoric.

"The Party stands for issue-based politics and a contest around who or which party has a better development track record and policy goals for Kenya’s future , rather than forcing support through lies, violence and useless slogans," he further said.

Kindiki said the party leadership in Embu had been directed to establish the extent of the damage caused during the incident and coordinate assistance for those affected.

"Our party leadership in Embu has been tasked with verifying the exact nature of the loss and/or damage, and to coordinate responses to stand in solidarity with all those adversely affected in one way or another," he concluded.

Elsewhere, Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) leader Justin Muturi has condemned an attack on opposition leaders in Garissa, describing the incident as an alleged attempted assassination.

In a statement on Saturday, September 12, Muturi said the incident was serious and called for immediate investigations to establish what happened and hold those responsible to account.

"The attack on opposition leaders in Garissa is a grave matter that must not be taken lightly. It amounts to an attempted assassination and risks balkanising the nation and creating fear among citizens," he said.

The former Attorney General urged the Inspector General of Police to move swiftly to investigate the incident and identify those behind the attack.

"We call upon the Inspector General of Police to immediately and thoroughly investigate this particular incident, identify all those involved, and ensure that every person found culpable is arrested and brought to justice," he added.

Muturi further said the incident would not deter members of the Wantam Movement from pursuing their political activities and advocating for democratic rights.

"We in the Wantam Movement will not be cowed, intimidated, or silenced. Kenyans are strong, resilient, and united. We will continue to stand for democracy, justice, peace, and the right of every Kenyan to participate freely in our country’s affairs," he further said.
