Several Dead After Bus, Car Collide at Kikopey Along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

Five people were killed on Sunday night, September 13, after an Easy Coach bus collided with a Toyota IST at Kikopey along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

The accident occurred at around 11pm as the bus was travelling from Gilgil towards Nakuru. The collision involved the bus and the private vehicle, leaving several people dead and others injured.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio confirmed the accident, saying police had launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Four of those who died were occupants of the private vehicle and included two female adults and two juveniles. They died at the scene of the accident following the collision.

The driver of the Toyota IST sustained serious injuries and was taken to Gilgil Hospital for treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

Other passengers who were injured in the crash were also rushed to hospital, where they were receiving treatment.

This comes days after Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga stepped in to support families affected by a tragic road accident at Mai Mahiu that claimed the lives of four members of the tomato business community.

In a statement on Thursday, September 10, the MP acknowledged the devastating news and paid tribute to the fallen traders.

"I have received the devastating news that members of our business community in the tomato sector were involved in a tragic road accident at Mai Mahiu.

"Sadly, we have lost: Mercyline Wefwafwa, Centrine Juma, Jane Baraza and Anthony," he wrote.

Kalasinga said five other members of the community were injured in the accident, adding that he had organised transportation to support the affected families as they respond to the tragedy.

"Five other members of our community have been injured. In response to this heartbreaking tragedy, I have organised transportation to assist the families of the deceased and those injured. 

"Our Area MCA, Hon. Eric Wekesa will accompany the families to Mai Mahiu to bring our people home and support them during this difficult time," he added.

Kalasinga extended his condolences to the families and loved ones of the four people who died, while wishing those injured a quick recovery.

"I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives. To those who are injured, I wish you a quick and full recovery. 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all the affected families and our entire business community during this very difficult moment. May God be with you all," he concluded.
