Masengeli reiterated that the police will stop at nothing to ensure the country remains secure.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, has warned Kenyans against destroying property following the chaos that ensued during a UDA event in Embu County. 

Speaking on Monday, September 14, DIG Masengeli empathised with one of the owners of the vehicles that were torched during the fracas.

He claimed that the owner had just purchased the vehicle on loan two days before the event, before it was set ablaze as the two groups clashed in the meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Masengeli asked Kenyans to be considerate before engaging in such acts of anarchy, and what would happen if the same cruelty were brought upon themselves.

"What interest do you have in burning somebody's vehicle? If you want to burn a vehicle, why don't you burn yours that you took a loan and bought?

"What happens if you realise that it belongs to your uncle or brother; do you see it through the same lenses? Let us confine ourselves within the rule of law," the DIG stated.

Masengeli assured Kenyans that the National Police Service (NPS) remains committed to its constitutional mandate of maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and preventing crime and providing security before, during and after elections.

"We shall stop at nothing to ensure that our country remains secure. We must remain impartial and apolitical," he reiterated,

The DIG confirmed that a mapping exercise has commenced to identify areas prone to election-related violence. He added that political hooliganism and gangs must be confronted early and decisively.

He warned Kenyan youth against allowing politicians to use them to advance their political goals, stating that neither they nor the politicians would be spared in the crackdown against goonism.

Earlier, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested two suspects in connection with the violent disruption of Kindiki's meeting. 

The agency is also pursuing additional suspects in relation to the case, which left one person dead and several police officers and locals injured.
