MP Millie Odhiambo Announces Death of Man Injured During Linda Mwananchi Homa Bay Visit

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has announced the death of a man who was injured during the Linda Mwananchi visit in Homa Bay County.

In an update on Wednesday, September 16, the MP said the deceased, identified as Michael Ouma Atom, was a resident of Kasgunga in Mbita and was among those affected by violence during the Linda Mwananchi visit.

Odhiambo said Atom had been receiving medical attention following the injuries but left hospital to take care of his children.

Announcing his death, the MP said Atom died from the injuries, leaving behind his children.

"Unfortunately he passed on yesterday from his injuries, leaving behind the kids he is saying he left the hospital to take care of," she wrote.

Elsewhere, the National Police Service (NPS) has praised Kenyans for maintaining peace and observing established protocols during the Linda Mwananchi political rally held at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi, Nairobi, on Sunday, September 13.

In a statement on Wednesday, the police service said it had received positive feedback from members of the public following the rally, which brought together political leaders, supporters and other participants.

"The National Police Service (NPS) acknowledges and appreciates the positive feedback received from Kenyans following the peaceful political rally held at Jacaranda Grounds, Embakasi, Nairobi, on Sunday, 13 September 2026," the statement read.

According to the NPS, the rally proceeded without incidents that disrupted public order, with participants and security officers maintaining restraint throughout the event.

"The NPS notes that the event was conducted peacefully, with mutual respect and restraint among the organisers, participants and security officers," the statement added.

NPS said the peaceful conduct of the rally demonstrated that Kenyans can exercise their constitutional freedoms while observing the law and maintaining public order.

"What was witnessed on Sunday is precisely what the National Police Service has consistently advocated: that we can exercise our constitutional freedoms peacefully and within the law," the statement further read.

The NPS also commended members of the public for their cooperation and adherence to procedures during the political gathering.

"We commend members of the public for their cooperation, maturity and adherence to established protocols.

"The Jacaranda rally demonstrates that political expression can take place without violence or disruption of public order. We therefore encourage all political leaders, supporters and stakeholders to make this the standard for future political engagements," the statement concluded.
