The National Assembly Speaker has cancelled a special sitting scheduled for Wednesday, July 13.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called off a special sitting scheduled for Wednesday, July 13.

Muturi said that the government printer had declined to gazette the notice of the sitting as required by Parliament standing orders.

His announcement came moments after the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) announced that it will not attend the special sitting.

In a press statement on Tuesday, Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly John Mbadi said that no Special Sitting can be convened without gazettement as stipulated in Parliament Standing Orders.

“Following the reaction in the media to the effect of the Special Sittings of the house on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, as per the provisions of the standing order 29 (1), no special sittings can be convened without gazettement as stipulated in the standing orders and as per the House procedures,” read part of the statement.

The ODM chairman asked the party’s members to boycott the special session and ignore any communication with regard to the sitting.

"Therefore, I want to advice our members not to attend any Special Sittings and to ignore any further communications in regard to the sittings," he stated.

The National Assembly Speaker had called for the special session to deliberate on the Huduma Bill, 2021 which proposed use of data in the Huduma Namba system by IEBC in the voter register.
