KMPDC Issues New Notice to Ambulance Operators Over Registration Deadline

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has extended the deadline for ambulance owners and operators to register and obtain licences for their services.

In a statement on Thursday, September 17, the council said the extension follows the launch of Ambulance Evacuation Services, giving operators additional time to complete the registration and licensing process without incurring charges.

"Following the successful launch of Ambulance Evacuation Services, the Council is pleased to announce that the deadline for free registration and licensure has been extended to 30th October 2026," the statement read.

KMPDC urged ambulance owners and operators who have not yet completed the process to use the extended period to submit their applications before the new deadline.

"Ambulance owners and operators are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this extended grace period to submit their applications at no cost," the statement added.

KMPDC directed ambulance owners and operators to submit their registration applications through the EMS Portal at https://ems.kmpdc.go.ke/ by 30th October 2026.

It warned that the free registration window will end once the new deadline expires, after which operators will be required to pay the prescribed charges under the relevant regulations.

"After 30th October 2026, requisite charges for application, inspection, registration, and licensing will apply as stipulated under the applicable regulations," the statement further read.

KMPDC further cautioned ambulance operators against failing to complete registration within the stipulated period, noting that non-compliance could result in regulatory action.

"Failure to register within the stipulated period may attract regulatory action, including applicable fees for application, inspection, registration, and licensing, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations," the statement concluded.

This comes two months after KMPDC announced that it is introducing a new digital system for the attestation of medical certificates.

In a notice on Thursday, July 16, the council said it is replacing the manual attestation of medical certificates with a fully online system that will be used by stakeholders going forward.

"The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council wishes to inform all stakeholders that it is transitioning from the manual attestation of medical certificates to a fully online attestation system," the notice read in part.

KMPDC said the rollout will be carried out in phases, beginning with a transition period running from July 20 to July 31, before the online platform becomes the only mode of processing medical certificate attestations from August 3.

"The transition phase will run from 20th July to 31st July 2026, with full implementation taking effect on 3rd August 2026. From this date, all medical certificate attestations will be processed exclusively through the online platform," the notice added.

KMPDC further clarified that access to the online attestation service will be restricted to licensed medical practitioners who are in good standing with the Council and who use the online service practitioner portal.

"The online attestation service will only be available through the online service practitioner portal to licensed medical practitioners who are in good standing with the Council," the notice further read.

According to KMPDC, the transition to the online platform is expected to strengthen ownership and accountability in the medical certification process while improving accessibility for practitioners and patients. 

It also aims to speed up the processing of attestation requests and support KMPDC's commitment to digitising and automating its services to deliver greater transparency, reliability and service excellence.
