Moja Expressway has announced temporary traffic changes at the Westlands Overpass as maintenance and construction works are carried out on the elevated section of the Nairobi Expressway.

In a notice on Friday, September 18, the company said the changes will affect motorists travelling from the James Gichuru Junction towards Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), with the temporary arrangement expected to remain in place for nearly two days.

"Motorists traveling from the James Gichuru Junction direction toward the CBD are informed that maintenance and construction works will take place along the elevated overpass deck from Saturday, 19th September 2026 at 8:00 PM to Monday, 21st September 2026 at 12:00 PM," the notice read.

During the works, CBD-bound motorists seeking to access the Nairobi Expressway through the Westlands Entrance will be required to avoid the elevated overpass deck.

Instead, motorists will use the lower A8 road, commonly known as Waiyaki Way, to access the route during the temporary traffic arrangement.

The changes will specifically affect traffic heading towards the CBD, while motorists exiting the Nairobi Expressway towards the overpass will resume normal operations earlier on Saturday evening.

According to Moja Expressway, outbound traffic exiting the Nairobi Expressway towards the overpass will resume normal operations from 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 19.

Motorists using the affected route have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with directions issued at the site to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the construction period.

"Drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic marshals stationed along the route. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway," the notice added.

This comes a day after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a public notice reminding motorists of a 21-day closure of the Thika-Kilimambogo Road at Delmonte Farms.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, KeNHA reminded motorists that traffic disruptions at Gatuanyaga will last from September 11 to October 2.

The authority explained that the closure is to pave the way for pavement construction works on the failed section between Km 16+100 and Km 18+250 of the highway.

"Reminder. KeNHA notifies the public that a section of Thika-Kilimambogo (A3) Road at Gatuanyaga (Delmonte Farms) will be temporarily closed.

"All motorists plying the Thika-Kilimambogo Road will use provided diversion lanes to ensure minimal traffic disruption in compliance with road safety measures," the notice read in part.

KeNHA advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police officers and traffic marshals on site.
