A flight instructor and his student have died after an aircraft operated by the Kenya School of Flying crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado West.

The aircraft was carrying the two occupants when it crashed in the area, resulting in the death of the student at the scene.

Kajiado West Police Commander Maureen Kuto said preliminary information indicated that poor weather conditions contributed to the crash.

According to Kuto, the weather made it difficult for those on board to maintain control of the aircraft, leading to the accident.

The instructor sustained injuries in the crash and was rushed to hospital for treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

The deaths have prompted police to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The bodies of the two victims were subsequently moved to the mortuary at Kajiado Referral Hospital pending further procedures.

This comes a month after a helicopter carrying seven tourists has crashed at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 19, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the accident, announcing that it involved a Eurocopter EC130 B4, registration SY-GYM.

According to the Authority, the crash happened a few minutes past 9AM.

"Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirms that an aircraft accident involving a Eurocopter EC130 B4, registration SY-GYM, has occurred at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

"The aircraft was conducting a flight from Loisaba to Easonyiro when the accident occurred at approximately 0913 hrs local time," the statement read.

KCAA said it was coordinating the response with relevant agencies and stakeholders.

"KCAA is coordinating with the relevant agencies and stakeholders in response to the accident.

"The Ministry of Roads and Transport, Air Accident Investigation Department is leading investigations on circumstances surrounding the accident," the statement added.

All seven onboard died on the scene.
