Sifuna Will Have Final Say on Party to Use in 2027 - Khalwale

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna will have the final say on the political party that his allies will use ahead of the 2027 General Election. 

Speaking on Monday, September 28, Khalwale said several parties had been considered as part of discussions on the political vehicle to be used, with the group examining the advantages and disadvantages of each option before reaching a decision.

"After all those parties were discussed, we did not settle on a party. We then looked at the pros and cons of each of those parties, and the final resolution was that we gave our leader the final say," he said. 

Khalwale said the group had agreed to respect Sifuna's decision if he chose any of the parties that had been discussed or introduced another option that he believed would serve their political ambitions. 

"We said that Sifuna should settle on any one of them, or convince us that there is another one that you have just stumbled upon; we will agree with your judgment.

"Why? Because we accepted that you cannot want to be the President of Kenya and refuse an opportunity to lead the movement. If you cannot lead the movement, you cannot be the President of Kenya," he added.

Khalwale said the decision reflected the level of trust the group had placed in Sifuna, adding that they would support the final decision once it is made.

"So, we are saying that, 'we have trusted you that much, and we will agree with you when you make the final pronouncement'," he further said.

This comes days after the Linda Mwananchi Movement named Sifuna as its presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.  

In a statement on Saturday, September 26, the movement said its leadership had held a meeting and resolved to designate Sifuna as its leader and presidential flag bearer.  

"Today, we met as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and resolved to move forward together, united by a common purpose of answering the call of Kenyans seeking better governance and rescuing our country from the grave failures of the current administration. 

"We further resolved that H.E. Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate," the statement read. 

The movement also announced that Sifuna will unveil the party he will use to contest for the presidency in early October. 

"In early October, H.E. Edwin Watenya Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the party on whose ticket he will run," the statement added. 

Further, Linda Mwananchi said it would build a coalition with like-minded political parties that share its commitment to the people of Kenya.

"We will seek to build a coalition with like-minded parties that share our commitment to the people of Kenya. We remain united and focused on the work ahead," the statement further read.
