Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has announced the reappointment of Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo as its Vice Chancellor for a second five-year term.
In an update on Monday, September 28, MMUST highlighted Shibairo’s leadership and his contribution to the university’s focus on science, technology, research and innovation.
"We are delighted to announce the reappointment of Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo as Vice Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology for a second five-year term," the statement read.
The university said Shibairo’s first five-year term had been marked by efforts to strengthen its academic and research agenda.
"Over the past five (5) years, Prof. Shibairo’s visionary leadership has reinforced MMUST’s commitment to excellence in science, technology, research and innovation," the statement added.

Shibairo began his academic career in agriculture after earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi in 1985.
He later obtained a Master of Science in Agronomy from the same university in 1989 before pursuing a PhD in Plant Science at the University of British Columbia in Canada, which he completed in 1996.
At the University of Nairobi, Shibairo served as a lecturer before taking up senior academic leadership responsibilities.
He served as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture from 2011 to 2013, overseeing academic, administrative and other activities within the faculty.
In July 2013, Shibairo moved to Kibabii University College, where he became Deputy Principal in charge of Academic and Student Affairs.
Following Kibabii University’s attainment of full university status, he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.
Shibairo has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervised master's and PhD students, conducted research, and served as an external examiner at several Kenyan universities.
He was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of MMUST in March 2020 for six months while serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor at Kibabii University.
In September 2021, Shibairo was appointed Vice Chancellor of MMUST, becoming the university’s third Vice Chancellor.
MMUST congratulated Shibairo following his reappointment and expressed confidence in his continued leadership of the institution.
"We extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Shibairo and wish him continued success as he steers the University towards even greater heights," the statement further read.
