The Jubilee Party Disciplinary Committee has issued a show-cause letter to former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu for allegedly breaching several provisions of the party’s constitution.

In the notice dated September 30, Jubilee Party Disciplinary Committee Chairperson Njoki Mbocе said the committee resolved to take action against Wambugu following a meeting held on Tuesday, September 29.

“Take notice that pursuant to Article 10 of the Jubilee Party Constitution, 2025, the Disciplinary Committee, at its meeting duly convened and held on 29th September, 2026, resolved to initiate proceedings for disciplinary action against you,” the notice read.

The disciplinary committee raised nine allegations against the former Nyeri Town lawmaker, including forming the Jubilee Aspirants Forum 2027 contrary to the party’s constitution.

Wambugu is also accused of insubordination of the party’s Secretary General by allegedly publishing communications that contravened a directive issued by the SG.

“It is alleged that on 30th April, 2026, through your verified Facebook page named ‘Ngunjiri Wambugu’, published information directly in contravention to the communication and directive made by the party Secretary General on behalf of the party dated 27th March, 2026, directing all party members and/or leaders of any party caliber to cease and desist from misleading and/or exploiting prospective aspirants and members, as the same undermined the party’s structures,” Mboce said.

The Jubilee Party Disciplinary Committee further accused Wambugu of allegedly usurping the powers of the Jubilee Party Leader by purporting to speak on behalf of the party.

Wambugu is also accused of contravening express Party communication and directives, usurping the Secretary General’s power to make official Party communications and notices, and misusing the official party logo, symbol and colours.

Other allegations are: misrepresenting the official party logo, symbol and colours, usurping the powers of the Party Leader of the Jubilee Party to convene meetings of the party and party members, and misrepresenting official party communication channels by presenting your personal email as the official party communication channel.

The committee directed Wambugu to submit a comprehensive written response addressing each allegation separately.

“You are hereby required to submit a comprehensive written response to these charges. Your response must address each allegation and factual allegation separately, and must include a clear admission or specific denial of each factual allegation, your detailed explanation or mitigating circumstances and any documentary evidence, witness statements, or materials you intend to rely upon,” Mboce stated.

Further, the Jubilee Disciplinary Committee chair said Wambugu must submit the response physically or electronically through the committee’s designated email address by 5pm on October 8, 2026

Mboce warned that failure to submit a response within the stipulated period could result in the proceedings continuing in his absence.

The possible disciplinary measures against the former MP include reprimand, censure, suspension or expulsion from the Jubilee Party.

This comes a week after former President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that he would step aside as Jubilee Party leader and hand over the position to his deputy, Fred Matiang’i.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 22, Uhuru said the decision would pave the way for Matiang’i to take charge of the party as members await the National Delegates Convention (NDC).

He asked Jubilee members to accept the former Interior Cabinet Secretary as the party’s new leader.

"While we wait for NDC, I have decided to let my deputy take over the party leadership. I want to ask you respectfully to accept Fred Matiang’i to take the position of Jubilee party leader," he said.
