Kaluma received an insignia of the Chief in the First Class of the Order of the Burning Spear.


Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed and his Homa Bay counterpart, Peter Kaluma, were officially presented with their medals and certificates after President William Ruto awarded them state honours.

Speaker Moses Wetangula hosted an event on Thursday, October 1, where he presented Junet, Kaluma and other awardees of National Honours given between 2022 and 2025.

The list included MPs, senators, parliamentary staff, commissioners, judicial officers, senior government officials and retirees.

Junet said that he was awarded the medal of honour as Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) in recognition of my patriotism and service to the nation of Kenya as the Leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly.

"Working seamlessly with the Majority Party, we are at the forefront of ensuring the progress and development of our country is undertaken according to the Constitution and our laws," he stated.

Kaluma received an insignia of the Chief in the First Class of the Order of the Burning Spear.

"In virtue hereof, I shall be permitted to use and wear the insignia of the Order publicly according to the Class named, and shall at all times have and enjoy the honour and style of: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear," the Homa Bay Town MP stated.

On his part, Wetangula Speaker highlighted the reforms enjoyed by the 13th Parliament.

He noted that many of the reforms were anchored in Standing Orders drafted by the late Dr Bonaya Godana, Bishop Kimani, the late Henry Obwocha, MP Julius Sunkuli and himself.

The Speaker commended the honourees for their distinguished service to the people of Kenya and congratulated them on receiving the national recognition. He reminded them that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

Other leaders presented with medals and honours include Migori Woman Rep. Fatuma Mohammed, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Keroche, and Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a.
