Detectives in Garissa have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in the fatal robbery and stabbing of US national Osman Aweys Abdi.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Garissa have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in the fatal robbery and stabbing of US national Osman Aweys Abdi.
In a statement on Sunday, October 4, the DCI identified the suspect as Muhiyadin Abdi Sheikh, who was arrested after months of investigations into the death of Osman, who was attacked in Garissa on May 28, 2026.
"Detectives drawn from DCI Garissa have arrested 26-year-old Muhiyadin Abdi Sheikh, the main suspect in the fatal robbery and stabbing of US national Osman Aweys Abdi," the statement read.
According to the DCI, the incident occurred near Abubeida School in Bulla Mzuri, approximately 5km north of Iftin Police Station.

"He sustained a stab wound to the left thigh and was also struck with a blunt object on the left side of the head. His mobile phone was stolen during the attack," the statement added.
Osman's brother was alerted to the incident by a well-wisher who had obtained his number from the victim.
He rushed to the scene and found his brother in pain before taking him to Antalya Hospital for medical attention.
However, Osman was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
His body was later transferred to Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
"The body was subsequently moved to Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital pending postmortem examination, as DCI detectives commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death," the statement further read.

Following the incident, Muhiyadin allegedly went into hiding as DCI Garissa detectives intensified efforts to establish his whereabouts.
The detectives mounted an intelligence-led operation to trace the suspect and pursued several leads over the following months.
The DCI said the operation eventually led detectives to a hideout in Kabete, Nairobi, where Muhiyadin was tracked down and arrested.
"The DCI reminds criminals that going into hiding may buy a suspect time - but it does not buy freedom. Our detectives will pursue every lead, follow every trail and uncover every hideout until those sought are brought before the law," the statement noted.
Muhiyadin is currently being held at Kasarani Police Station pending his escort to Garissa, where he is expected to face murder charges.
This comes days after detectives arrested two suspects in connection with operating a counterfeit juice factory at a homestead in Kabete, Kiambu County.
In a statement on Thursday, October 1, the DCI said the operation followed a tip-off from a member of the public who reported suspicious activities at the homestead.
Detectives from Kabete Police Station swiftly responded to the tip-off and caught the two suspects, Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala red-handed while producing counterfeit juice.
"What looked like an ordinary homestead in Muthua, Kabete, was being used as a clandestine juice factory, until a vigilant member of the public blew the whistle.
"Acting on the information, detectives from Kabete Police Station responded swiftly. At the homestead, they found two men, Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala, in the middle of producing counterfeit juice. Both were arrested on the spot," the statement read.
The detectives conducted a search at the homestead and recovered approximately 1,400 filled 200ml and 300ml bottles of suspected counterfeit juice, 56 cartons of empty bottles and five packets of bottle tops.
They also recovered two blue drums and three basins of different colors, which were allegedly being used in the production process.
"Detectives recovered approximately 1,400 filled 200ml and 300ml bottles of suspected counterfeit juice, alongside 56 cartons of empty bottles, five packets of bottle tops, two blue drums and three assorted-colour basins," the statement added.
The officers further seized office glue, rubber stamps and ink, assorted stickers, an expired certificate authorizing the use of the Standardization Mark for a well-known juice brand, assorted powdery and colorless substances packed in polythene bags in 50-gram portions and in 200ml and 300ml bottles.
The scene was subsequently processed by detectives from the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.
The two suspects are in police custody as investigations into the clandestine juice factory continue.
