Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana announced he has ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking on Saturday, October 10, Godhana revealed plans to revive his old party, the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK).
He explained that his decision was guided by a need to have a politial vehicle for the Coast Region and free it from the dominance of the national parties such as ODM.
The two-term Governor said that lack of a regional political party would expose it to exploitation and manipulation.
He added that the party would field candidates in all elective seats in the upcoming General Election in 2027, including the Presidency.

"If you look at the conversation across the country, people are saying that there is a vacuum in the Coast because there is no party that speaks to the interest of the people.
"They needed somebody to give the people direction on which way to go," Governor Godhana stated.
Godhana became the second governor to ditch the Oburu Oginga-led Orange Party. Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai ditched the party for William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance.
Earlier, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja announced plans to contest the Nakuru gubernatorial seat on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, ditching the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Karanja said she recognised her supporters as the people who gave her the mandate to serve in the Senate.
She emphasised that her supporters were responsible for her election, noting that even her party leader understood where her political mandate came from.
"I know very well that you people are my employers. You are my bosses. Even if I went to the Senate, my party leader knows very well who employed me. It is you people who employed me," she said.
Karanja also used her dressing to signal her intended political realignment, appearing in green attire as she declared her plan to seek the governor's seat under the DCP party.
