Malala dared the police station's OCPD to make good his threat to arrest him.

Officers at the Kakamega Central Police Station lobbed teargassed DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala as he attempted to file a petition with the county police bosses on Monday, October 12.

Malala had gone to seek police redress over an alleged use of goons by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa to fight political battles.

The police also fired shots in the air to disperse the crowd after tension escalated in the station over demands to have a blogger arrested by the police released.

Nonetheless, the DCP Deputy Party leader managed to hand in his petition after the fracas subsided.

"We have presented a public petition to the National Police Service leadership in Kakamega in what seems to be runaway political violence, goonism and intimidation of the people from compromised officers.

"From the more than 300goons hired and trained by Barasa to maim political opponents, torching houses and direct attacks on our people, Barasa has chosen violence as a mode of operation against service delivery, he wrote.

Malala accused the Governor of using the police to criminalise free speech and demanded that the region's Director of Criminal Investigations stop protecting the Kakamega Governor.

He further declared that the Kakamega DCI Boss should take decisive action to bring an end to the dangerous, growing culture of goonism.

"All these incidents have happened, yet the county DCI boss has done nothing. If the government is serious, then that CCIO should be transferred from Kakamega County," the former Kakamega Senator stated.

He also dared the police station's OCPD to make good his threat to arrest him, adding that he is ready to table evidence he has to back the claims he made against Governor Barasa,

Meanwhile, Malala hinted that DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua will return from the United States of America (USA) next week. He added that Gachagua will guide the party on how to work with other leaders in the United Opposition.

"Rigathi Gachagua is returning from America next week and will give us direction on how he intends to work with other presidential candidates," he stated.
