The NPS spokesperson said that such conduct is unacceptable and has no place in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.
Two police officers were injured after they tried to disperse a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kitale Town on Friday, October 17.
In a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the police had gone to disperse a night rally held by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Governor George Natembeya.
Officers lobbed teargas to disperse the Linda Mwananchi supporters who retaliated.
"Two law enforcement officers sustained injuries, and two government vehicles were damaged. Such conduct is unacceptable and has no place in a democratic society governed by the Constitution and the rule of law," Nyaga wrote.
The NPS Spokesperson explained that the officers involved responded after the leaders responsible for the night rally contravened the Public Order Act, Cap 56.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the individuals concerned engaged in actions that undermined public order and the rule of law, thereby endangering the safety and security of the public," the statement continued.
Nyaga confirmed that the police have begun investigating the full circumstances of the incident and will take appropriate action against any person found culpable, in accordance with the law.
He further urged all political leaders, supporters, and other stakeholders to uphold peace, restraint, and respect for the rule of law at all times, fostering an environment beneficial to all.
"The NPS reaffirms that no person, regardless of social status, political affiliation or public office, is above the law. Individuals found contravening the Public Order Act, engaging in acts of violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters or disrupting lawful gatherings will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law," Nyaga wrote.
The Police Spokesperson maintained that the NPS remains apolitical, impartial and dedicated to fulfilling its constitutional mandate, and is committed to serving and protecting all members of the public with competence, professionalism and integrity.
Earlier, Sifuna and Natembeya were denied the opportunity to address the crowd at the funeral of former VIP Boss, SAIG Lazarus Opicho.
The officer in charge of the programme barred any further addresses by Linda Mwananchi leaders after Butula MP Jack Wamboka mounted a scathing attack on President William Ruto.
"As LindavMwananchi, we forgive the disgraceful conduct by DIG Gilbert Masengeli and Lagat at Opicho’s funeral in Kitale today. We still spoke to the people. I know many in public service are living in fear because we have a very petty regime in power. Being seen to “allow” opposition leaders too much leeway can end careers. My assurance is that in 10 months you will experience true freedom," Sifuna wrote.
