Former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi has announced his departure from the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
In a statement on Tuesday night, October 20, Wamunyinyi said he has joined Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement.
The former MP said his decision followed long nights of reflection and consultations with members of the public.
“After long nights of reflection and listening to the ground, I have decided to drop my position as Deputy Party Leader of DAP-K and take my energy to walk side by side with my brother, the voice of the people, Sen. Edwin Sifuna,” read the statement.
Wamunyinyi explained that he chose to align himself with Senator Sifuna because his political messaging resonated with ordinary Kenyans, including small-scale traders, boda boda operators, unemployed youth and farmers.

“Why Sifuna? Because Sifuna is not speaking the language of boardrooms; he is speaking the language of mama mboga, boda boda, the jobless youth and the forgotten farmer. That is the Linda Mwananchi spirit,” he stated.
Further, Wamunyinyi said he reached out to the DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa and urged him to support Sifuna.
The Former Kanduyi lawmaker argued that opposition leaders need to work together rather than divide their support ahead of the 2027 General election.
“I have not left in anger. In fact, I have reached out to my Party Leader, my brother Eugene Wamalwa, and told him plainly, come, let us go and support Sifuna.
“History will not forgive us if we scatter the opposition vote while Mwananchi is suffering. We cannot go into 2027 divided,” Wamunyinyi added.
This comes days after Kieni Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina quit the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Speaking on Saturday, October 17, in Kieni, Nyeri County, Wainaina said he has joined the Ufanisi Kenya Party.
The MP explained that his decision to leave the President William Ruto-led party was driven by the needs and interests of Kieni residents.
“Because of the gods, and because we have occasionally been reminded that we went to a wedding with someone else’s vehicle, I have made my 504 that will carry all the people of Kieni. This is Ufanisi Kenya Party,” said Wainaina.
The Kieni lawmaker added that he is the second party leader from Nyeri County after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“I am the second known party leader in Nyeri County after Rigathi Gachagua,” Wainaina added.
