Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang in connection with the murders of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
In a statement on Saturday, October 24, DCI said the police inspector who has been on the run was nabbed in Eldoret city in Uasin Gishu County.
“A manhunt for a suspect wanted in connection with the murders of prominent Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has culminated in his arrest, marking a significant breakthrough in the two investigations.
“Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, who had been on the run, was arrested by a team of detectives from DCI Headquarters following actionable intelligence that led them to Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County,” read the statement in part.
According to the DCI, detectives intercepted Sang while he was driving a Toyota Fielder along Uganda Road in Eldoret CBD.

The officer was reportedly in the process of selling the vehicle to raise money for his daily upkeep.
“His arrest brings a key suspect who had remained at large into police custody, marking a significant step forward in the two murder investigations,” DCI said.
Following the arrest, Sang was escorted to Eldoret Police Station for processing pending arraignment.
The Detectives are now pursuing further leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Mutiso was gunned down on Wednesday, July 29 morning in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi. The late doctor had requested an Uber service for transport when she was fatally shot.
Lawyer Mbombu was on the other hand shot dead in September 9, 2025 when motorcycle-riding gunmen approached his stationary vehicle along the busy Magadi Road and opened fire without warning.
The assailants shattered the lawyer's car windshield before discharging rounds that critically injured Mbobu.
This comes weeks after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved the prosecution of Kimutai Maritim for the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso.
In a statement on September 23, the DPP told the court that Maritim was arrested at the Pangani Police Station while he attempted to visit other suspects detained in connection with the murder.
The suspect was attempting to deliver a meal, a loaf of bread and a packet of milk, to detainees when police officers raised suspicion about his likely involvement in the murder.
"Maritim was arrested on 22nd August 22 2026, after he allegedly attempted to visit suspects detained at Pangani Police Station.
"Investigators told the court that Maritim was allegedly linked to the planning of the offence and that he could assist in tracing other suspects who remain at large," the statement read in part.
