PS Sing’Oei said the inconvenience is unwarranted, adding that Kenya is pursuing diplomatic and political channels to resolve the issue.

“The treatment of Kenyans seeking visas to Nigeria is unacceptable. While we extend visa-free entry to Nigerian citizens, this is not reciprocated. The inconvenience suffered by Kenyans is unwarranted.

"We are pursuing the remedying of this situation with vigor at diplomatic and political levels,” said Sing’Oei.

This comes after a section of Kenyans took to social media to complain about difficulties they encountered when applying for Nigerian visas.

One social media user claimed the process was lengthy and required applicants to provide additional documents, including the passport of the person inviting them to Nigeria.

“By the way, applying for a Nigerian Visa - you need more documents than you need for the UK, US, Schengen. And the process is longer. You even need the passport of the inviter,” the user wrote.

Elsewhere, Kenya has dismissed reports of throwing support behind the United Arab Emirates (UAE) candidate Lana Nusseibeh for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.

PS Sing’Oei, in a statement, said Kenya had not endorsed any candidate for the top UN post.

He noted that Kenya is closely monitoring the ongoing campaigns, including interest expressed by new candidates seeking the position.

“Quite to the contrary, Kenya has not expressed support for any candidate at this point.

“We are following keenly the ongoing campaigns for UNSG, including the expression of interest by new candidates and are confident that a candidate with the capacity to lead the UN at this critical juncture will not only receive our support but that of the majority of Members of the UN,” he wrote.
