The Ministry described the team's participation as an important opportunity for emerging athletes to compete internationally and showcase their abilities.
"Team Kenya’s participation in this landmark sporting event is a moment of immense national pride, providing an exceptional platform for our young athletes to showcase their talent, compete against the world’s best and contribute to a new chapter in Africa’s sporting history," the statement read.
The government said Kenya's presence at the Games was part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country's talent development system and prepare promising athletes for senior international competitions.
"Our presence in Dakar is anchored on a deliberate and long-term vision to strengthen Kenya’s sporting talent development pipeline. The Youth Olympic Games provide a critical transition platform through which promising young athletes gain exposure to elite international competition, develop the resilience and discipline required at the highest levels and prepare for progression into senior national teams," the statement added.
The Ministry further linked the country's participation to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya's Path to Podium 2028 and 2032 Strategy, which aims to prepare athletes for the next two Olympic Games.
"This participation is equally aligned with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya’s Path to Podium 2028 and 2032 Strategy, which seeks to build a competitive generation of athletes capable of representing Kenya with distinction at the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games," the statement further read.

The government also underscored the need for sustained investment in grassroots sports, talent identification and athlete development to maintain Kenya's international sporting reputation.
"As Government, we recognize that sustaining Kenya’s position as a global sporting powerhouse requires deliberate investment in grassroots talent identification, structured athlete development, technical expertise and competitive opportunities across a broader range of sporting disciplines. Our ambition is to build a sporting ecosystem that consistently identifies, nurtures and advances talent from the grassroots to the international stage," the statement noted.
The Ministry urged the athletes to uphold the country's sporting values and use the international competition as an opportunity to inspire other young people interested in pursuing sports careers.
"To Team Kenya, this is your moment to demonstrate the discipline, resilience, determination and excellence that define our nation's sporting heritage. You represent a new generation entrusted with carrying forward Kenya’s proud Olympic tradition while establishing your own legacy on the international stage.
"Compete with integrity, uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and embrace this opportunity to learn, grow and inspire millions of young Kenyans who aspire to follow in their footsteps," the statement concluded.
This comes a day after Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya unveiled the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) Standing Committee to coordinate and oversee Kenya’s preparations for the continental football tournament.
In a statement on Thursday, October 29, the CS said the committee is expected to guide the country’s efforts to deliver the competition.
"I have officially unveiled the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 LOC Standing Commitee, entrusting its members with the national responsibility of coordinating and overseeing Kenya’s preparations towards delivering a world-class, memorable and successful continental football tournament," he wrote.
Mvurya said the committee members were selected based on their experience, professional expertise and leadership abilities.
"Carefully selected for their wealth of experience, professional expertise and proven leadership, the committee brings together distinguished individuals whose collective capabilities will be instrumental in delivering a championship befitting Kenya’s ambitions as a leading sporting destination," he added.
Mvurya also said the committee had been entrusted with a national responsibility, noting that the tournament should provide benefits beyond football by creating opportunities in sports development, tourism, investment and the wider economy.
"I reaffirmed their mandate and reminded them that they carry the hopes and aspirations of over 55 million Kenyans to deliver a tournament that brings pride and joy to the country while securing a lasting legacy in sports development, tourism, investment and economic opportunities," he further said.
With less than eight months remaining before the tournament kicks off, Mvurya challenged the committee to move beyond planning and focus on implementing the preparations required to host the competition.
"With less than eight months to kick-off, I challenged the committee to move decisively from planning to execution, prioritising operational readiness, effective coordination, strategic partnerships, financial accountability and strict adherence to delivery timelines," he concluded.
