Earlier, the Ministry of Interior has urged university students across the country to return to their respective institutions and resume learning following the suspension of the lecturers’ strike.

The Ministry called on students to remain calm and return to their universities following the latest development.

So far, The University of Eldoret, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Kibabii University have announced dates for the resumption of teaching and learning activities following the conclusion of the nationwide university staff industrial action.

The three institutions set November 2 as the date for resumption of classes. However, JKUAT announced an extension of the session reporting and unit registration deadline to Monday, November 9, to allow students with outstanding fee balances to clear them.

The Universities' Academic Staff Union (UASU), the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) and the Kenya Union of Domestic Hotels Education Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) went on a month-long strike in 2026, citing unresolved grievances regarding Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and related arrears.

According to the university dons and their unions, they agreed to return to work after securing a Ksh20 billion deal with the government for the implementation of the 2025-2029 CBA.
