Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has challenged the county government of Nakuru to come up with unique architectural designs to give 'Nakuru City' an Identity.

The Senate today, June 3, 2021, debated the conferment of Nakuru Municipality to city status.

In their arguments, several senators showered the Rift Valley town with praise, arguing that its stature deserves elevation to city status, however, a section noted that the town must embrace uniqueness in its quest for city status.

Former Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen challenged the municipality of Nakuru to come up with unique architectural designs that will attract people to the city.

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator challenged the County Government of Nakuru to come up with proper structural planning designs that will enable the city avert problems such as those currently experienced in Nairobi City.

"The County Government of Nakuru must put in place a proper planning department with a clear message to all persons who want to invest in Nakuru that if you want to build an office block you must come with a unique architectural design.

"A design that looks like a flamengo would attract people to go to Nakuru Mr. Spreaker," Murkomen opined while making fun of the 'box' shaped buildings in the town.

He reiterated that the planning department oversees all architectural designs besides ensuring proper drainage within the town.

Murkomen urged the County government to revisit the establishment of residential and commercial buildings in Nakuru, arguing that, if not properly factored in, the town may face similar challenges as Nairobi as the population continues to increase.

Nairobi is faced with massive drainage challenges that have often been exposed by the onset of rainy seasons in the capital.
