He went on to describe Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers as his heroes, proposing that every private be paid a basic monthly salary of UGX 2 million (Ksh64,233).
Muhoozi said the salary increment for the UPDF soldiers would start in the next financial year.
“My heroes have always been UPDF soldiers. We are struggling to improve their accommodation.
“But now, as I prepare to leave the military, every UPDF private must be paid Ush2,000,000 as their basic salary. This must start in the next financial year,” he added.
Muhoozi was appointed as Uganda’s military chief in March 2024 by President Yoweri, replacing General Wilson Mbadi.
His announcement to exit the position comes months after he directed all Ugandan ministers to seek his clearance before traveling abroad.
In a statement via X on Saturday night, September 26, Muhoozi warned that any minister who disobeys the directive will be fined UGX 30 million (Ksh 993,000).
Muhoozi noted that the funds will be channeled towards the construction of the roads.
“Every minister who leaves the country without my permission will be fined 30 million shillings. We shall use that money to build roads. Ministry of Finance will start implementing this order immediately,” he wrote.
