Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the National Police Service (NPS) of selectively targeting political parties while claiming to be enforcing Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government.

Speaking on Sunday after being blocked from attending a meeting in Nyandarua County alongside area Governor Francis Kimemia, Kalonzo accused the police of being used to harass politicians.

According to Kalonzo, someone is scared of his advances in the region and has resorted to using the police to stop him.

“There is someone and I don’t who that person is who heard that Kalonzo is visiting Nyandarua and got scared. But we will pray for that person,” Kalonzo said.

On His part, Governor Kimemia said: “We are not happy for what has been done to us today and particular being people who are assisting this government.”

Kalonzo and Kimemia were scheduled to attend a fundraiser at Kinangop. However, their motorcade was stopped and denied access to Rwanyambo Secondary School where the fundraiser was to take place.

The Sunday incident came two days after police invaded a UDA sensitization meeting in Mombasa and ordered everyone to leave citing a ban on political gatherings due to Covid-19.

The disruption of the UDA meeting elicited massive reactions with a section of netizens accusing the police of targeting political parties perceived to be against the government.

The National Police Service has, however, dismissed the claims noting that it is acting on a recent directive by Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’I banning all political gatherings in the country for the next 60 days.
