Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua was on Monday presented in court over claims that he’s involved in economic crimes where approximately Sh7.4 billion has been transacted.
The court listened to the case and delivered a ruling releasing Gachagua on a Sh12 million cash bail or a Sh25 million bond after pleading 'not guilty' to all 6 charges in the case.
Following the ruling, many expected Gachagua to spend an extra night in custody as he sought to raise the funds, but he managed to raise the full amount in record three hours.
In a statement after his release, Gachagua noted that he was able to raise the cash thanks to support from friends.
“I thank all the friends who helped me raise the hefty cash bail in a record three hours,” he said.

The vocal legislator also appreciated his legal team, his constituents and political allies for standing with him through the case, maintaining that he believes the charges he’s facing have been trumped up by the DCI.
“I thank God that I am finally at home with my family after facing trumped up charges by the DCI on orders from State House… I thank the Hustler Nation under the leadership of Dr. William Ruto for their support and comradeship… I am finally happy to face justice in an independent Court of Law. I am now finishing the two books that I was reading in the cells, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ and another one given to me at the DCI Headquarters, ‘Rising Against All Odds’,” he posted.
