Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has laughed off Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i's statement on the arrest of Turkish businessman Harun Aydin.
Speaking on Friday, Murkomen said that the government has now changed its narrative after accusing Aydin of terrorism, financing terrorism and money laundering.
“After one week of shame & after accusing Turkish businessman of fake charges of terrorism, terror financing & money laundering, now they have changed it to featureless crimes like wrong telephone number & unstamped passport. Thing is grown ups were sitting in the committee nodding. Jeez,” said the Senator.
Appearing before the National Assembly’s Committee on Administration and National Security on Friday, Matiang'i gave more insight on Turkish Businessman Harun Aydin and why he was deported on 9 August 2021.
The CS disclosed that Mr. Aydin gave a dummy contract after claiming he was working in the energy sector.

The Interior CS further revealed that the Turkish businessman was sneaked into the country.
Matiang’i disclosed that Aydin had been flagged by an intelligent organization in another country.
"Harun Aydin's documents said he was working in the energy sector but his contract was a dummy. He got a work permit on 25th June 2021. Security agencies flagged Aydin for his regional travels.”
"Harun Aydin’s track movement is a characteristic of people involved in money laundering & terrorism. His passport shows, he has left the country twice without a stamp of arrival; this means he was sneaked into the country," Matiangi said.
He further clarified that the Government of Kenya had not apologized to Turkey but were in talks with his Government and agreed to surrender him.
