The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has issued a new directive to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

DPP Haji on August 18, directed the IG to interdict former Manyatta OCS Abdullahi Yaya and Embu North OCPD Emily Ngaruya over deaths of two brothers from Kianjokoma, Embu County.

The two police boses were transferred by Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua following the incident.

Haji's directive requires the two officer barred from conducting police work, pending determination of the case.

The DPP's directive comes after he detained the six police officers who were linked to the murder of Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura, for 14 days.

The six, Corporal Benson Mbuthia, Corporal Consolata Kariuki, Constable Martin Wanyama, Constable Lilian Cherono, Constable Nicholus Sang, and Constable James Mwaniki, were arraigned before Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Daniel Ndugi on Tuesday, August 17.

Haji had filed a miscellaneous application at the high court to allow his office to conclude investigations.

Justice Ndugi ruled that the 14-day duration is a fair amount of time since the case had become a national matter of interest.

“14 days is not a long time. I agree with the lawyers that this is a matter of great interest. The family members want to know what killed the two Embu brothers, this can only be achieved if the police are given time to conclude investigations," Justice Ndugi stated.

“It’s necessary to keep them in custody for their own safety…there’s tension on the ground and if released just days after their arrest, there might be anarchy," he ruled.
