Police officers on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, disrupted burial service for Mahoo Ward MCA Ronald Sangurani in Taita Taveta after mourners flouted Covid-19 protocols.
Following a directive by the government through the Ministry of Health, only family members and close relatives are allowed during social gatherings such as burials.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that these social processions had become grounds for faster spreading of the Covid-19 virus.

Police officers are said to have stormed the burial service, kicked out mourners and dismantled the tents.
Following the incident, allies of Deputy President William Ruto alleged that the police received "orders from above" to disrupt the meeting.
Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and digital strategist Dennis Itumbi took to social media, claiming that, Sagurani's burial service was interrupted because the deputy president was to grace the event.
"Police under instructions from above have disrupted and brought down tents at the burial service of Mahoo WARD MCA, the Late Hon Ronald Sagurani just because the DP William Ruto was to attend.
"Machungu ya Kiambaa na BBI iko mingi," Nyoro stated.
"Just because DP William Ruto was headed to a burial in Taita. The kawaida owners of Kifua, Madharau and Ujinga bring down tents and kick out mourners!" Itumbi tweeted.
Sagurani passed away on August 18, while receiving treatment at Pandya Hospital in Mombasa.
President Uhuru Kenyatta in his condolence message to the family, friends and relatives of mourned Sarugani as a progressive grassroots politician and regretted that the cruel hand of death had taken him away at a time when his constituents still needed his transformative leadership.
“As a party we have lost a progressive leader who was dedicated to the service of his community. His commitment to improving the lives of wananchi at the grassroots endeared him to many, propelling him to be elected twice to represent Mahoo Ward,” the President said.
