The government through the Kenya Nation Highways Authority (KeNHA) has taken action over the traffic menace on Mombasa Road; that has seen some users spend the night on the busy road.
In a bid to reduce congestion and ease traffic flow, KeNHA has formed a multi-agency team that will be stationed at different parts of the road to guide motorists and help clear any traffic barriers.
“In light of the recent traffic flow disruptions and delays along Mombasa Road, KeNHA is determined to reduce the time spent on this road to the bare minimum… A multi-agency team has been established to guide on the traffic control interventions. This will include ensuring that construction sites have adequate and well signposted lanes, rapid intervention in case of accidents and well defined U-turns,” KeNHA said.
The agency appreciated Mombasa Road users for being patient, adding that the contractors are working around the clock to finish up construction and open different sections of the road to ease congestion.

Last week, a heavy traffic snarl was witnessed on the road, with some user spending the night on the busy highway.
Radio presenter Anthony Ndiema was among the affected users. Narrating his experience, Ndiema said he left Capital Centre at 8Pm only for him to get to his home in Syokimau at 2am.
“So I left Capital Centre at 8pm and got to Syokimau at 2am. Elsewhere someone has left JKIA and gotten to Doha and probably done almost 2 hrs of work. Surely! How can I still be productive the following day at work? There is clearly no effort to create more diversions and temporary routes.
“I know that argument of use the train, why drive when you know the traffic is crazy... There are days you can’t avoid… Choose your leaders wisely,” he said.
Weighing in on the traffic menace, blogger Robert Alai urged Mombasa Road users to sue KeNHA.
“Mombasa Road users should sue KeNHA for the kind experiences they go through on the road. Contractors are supposed to create alternative routes for users of the main route being remade. What Msa road users experience shouldn’t be excused,” Alai tweeted.
