On August 30, 2021, daring robbers raided the home of Senior Deputy Inspector General King’ori Mwangi and made away with valuables.
The robbers broke into the home of the senior police boss attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and tied his househelp, Jane Njoki, before making away with the items.
A witness who recorded a statement at the Nyeri Police Station noted seeing a boda boda rider and a pillion passenger ferrying what appeared to be a heavy bundle at the Pembe Tatu Area in Nyeri county.

The witness, Samuel Kariithi, alerted the police who responded quickly but the riders managed to escape.
The officers then retrieved the items left behind by the suspects and embarked on a search to establish where the robbery had taken place.
“It was established that the subject had taken place at a house belonging to Mr King’ori Mwangi. Officers entered the house and found one Jane Njoki a house help at the home, who had her legs tied with ropes, and mouth covered with a piece of cloth,” the report reads in part.
Njoki told the police that the incident occurred when she had received food for the dogs and left the gate open. When she returned from the kennel, she was met with three men who threatened to stab and kill her if she dared to scream.
“They held her hostage as they ransacked the whole house and made away with electronic goods in an ordeal that lasted for about eight hours,” the report adds.
The robbers breached the doors to three bedrooms and ransacked them. They also broke into a safe and took a pistol.
Some of the items recovered by the police include: cartridges, 50 Sellier and ballot 70MM cartridges, GoTV decoder, DSTV decoder, a computer video game system, rifle cleaning kit, cables, assorted items of clothing, police berets and door locks.
Nyeri County Commander Adiel Nyange led a team of officers to the crime scene.
“A tracking dog from K9 Unit has been employed to track the robbers and a team of officers dispatched for the task. The house help was escorted to the station in order to record a statement over the matter,” the police report noted.
