Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has suffered a blow after the IEBC disqualified his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party candidate Milton Mwenda Kabobo from the upcoming Kiagu Ward by-election slated for October 14, 2021.
In a statement posted on its social media pages, IEBC noted that it disqualified Kabobo and another candidate named Nathan Gitonga after it emerged that the two are yet to resign as public officers.
IEBC made the decision following a petition by South Imenti United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Coordinator Salesio Mutuma Thuranira.
According to IEBC, Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi has the next 72 hours to provide an alternative candidate to fill the slot left by Kabobo.
“The Commission’s leadership and integrity Vetting Committee has disqualified Milton Mwenda and Nathan Gitonga from Contesting in the Kiagu County Assembly ward by election in Meru County that is slated for 14th October 2021.

Reacting to the disqualification, Kuria noted that his party does not agree with the ruling and will on Friday move to the High Court .
“Today the IEBC has disqualified the Chama Cha Kazi candidate for Kiagu By-Election Milton Mwenda Kabobo following a petition by the South Imenti UDA Coordinator Salesio Mutuma Thuranira. The party has been asked to submit a replacement candidate. We are dissatisfied with this decision and we will move to the High Court first thing tomorrow morning to challenge this decision,” he said.
The Kiagu by-election was highly anticipated as it was the first contest that would have pitted two Hustler Nation parties; (CCK and UDA) against each other.
