According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, there has been a 8.3 per cent increase in the number of fatalities from road accidents since beginning of the year to July compared to a similar period last year.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that 2,696 people have died over that period this year compared to 2,490 over similar period in 2021.

Pedestrians still account for the highest casualties at 957 followed by motorcyclists at 741.

The pedestrian victims represent a 12.7 per cent increase from last year's 849 while 6.1 per cent (741) more motorcyclists have died this year as at July compared to 698 last year.
