Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has said that he is not President Uhuru Kenyatta’s project or preferred candidate in the 2022 presidential race.

In an interview on Wednesday, the former Prime Minister said that if he will be on the ballot, it will be as Raila Odinga and he does not need anyone to sponsor his candidature, because he has a track record that he has used to seek the presidency before.

Mr Odinga said that he will go Kenyans and present his case to them on what he has done, and that which he intends to do for them if elected.

“He has never told me that I’m his preferred candidate I think he said he was going to talk sometime. All I know is that I’m not his project. If I’m going to run, I will run as Raila Odinga and you know I have already run for president, I have a track record which is known, I don’t need to be sponsored by anybody.”

“I will go to Kenyans and tell them what I’ve done in the past and what I’m capable of doing in the future and if the president backs me, it will be a compliment and I will be happy to receive it,” he said.

Odinga noted that he has not decided whether to vie for the top seat in the next general elections, adding that what he is currently doing is consulting with Kenyans.

He said as soon as he is done, he will make an announcement of his next move.

“I’m having consultations with Kenyans and I started in Nakuru where I launched azimio la umoja and I’m getting opinions of Kenyans on different issues and at the end of these consultations, which I hope is going to be end of this month I will have made up my mind and I will make an announcement on if I’m going to run or not,” said Mr Odinga.
