  • According to Sifuna, UDA is sensing defeat and has resorted to blame games as a way of preparing to reject the outcome of the 2022 presidential election.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has hit out at politicians allied to the UDA Party, over their recent attack on Chief Justice Martha Koome and a section of Cabinet Secretaries over preparations for the 2022 general election.

A few weeks ago, UDA politicians attacked Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru for being part of a committee overseeing preparations for the 2022 polls.

The politicians argued that Matiang’I and Mucheru have no business taking part in election management, arguing that they should focus on delivering services to Kenyans under their ministries.

"They are supposed to be apolitical yet, they have become ODM agents,” Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said.

His point of view was echoed by his Mathira counterpart Rigathi Gachagua who said: “Matiang'i is partisan and any election management he is part of cannot be free and fair.”

After the onslaught on the CSs, the UDA-allied leaders shifted focus and went for CJ Koome, arguing that she cannot be part of the election management committee since she is an independent judicial officer who may be called upon in case the results are contested.

Led by Garissa Town MP Aden Duale, the leaders called for Koome’s resignation, claiming that her being in the committee amounts to conflict of interest.

“Madam Chief Justice and the President of the Supreme Court, you cannot wear two hats that you are preparing elections. You sit in the preparation of elections and when the elections are over you want to wear another hat as an independent Judicial Officer in the determination of the presidential elections… You better resign as the Chief Justice and be part of our competitors. We have no problem with that,” Duale said.

Reacting to the attacks, Sifuna noted that once the UDA leaders are done with the CJ, they will now go after clergymen.

According to Sifuna, UDA is sensing defeat and has resorted to blame games as a way of preparing to reject the outcome of the 2022 presidential election.

“It was CS's now it's the CJ, next will be Bishops! We are dealing with an increasingly desperate opponent. Quickly realising his dream was just that, a dream, and preparing his followers to reject the resounding defeat coming his way in 2022,” Sifuna tweeted.
