Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe's wife Edith Mawia Malombe has passed on.

Mrs Malombe passed on a short illness on Tuesday, December 7.

"It is with profound sadness that We the family of Dr Julius Makau Malombe, the pioneer Governor of Kitui County, announce the passing on of Mrs Edith Mawia Malombe on 7th December 2021 after a short illness," a statement from the family reads.

The burial arrangements are ongoing.

Kenyans of goodwill took to their social media handles to mourn the deceased even as they sent their condolences messages to the family.

"My heartfelt condolences to former Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe's; her wife Edith Mawia Malombe passed on after a short illness. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time," Job Nyamu, an aspiring MP in Machakos, wrote on Facebook.

Mr Malombe was the pioneer governor of Kitui County. He served between 2013 and 2017 before he was ousted by the current county boss Charity Kaluki Ngilu.
