Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has claimed that there were plans to launch the construction of River Enziu bridge before Christmas 2021.
Speaking on Thursday,November 8 during the requiem mass for the victims of River Enziu tragedy, the legislator said that they had appealed to the Government to hasten the construction of the bridge.
Mr. Mulyungi stated that plans were set in motion with the approval of PS Paul Maringa to launch the construction in December this year before the accident occurred.
"It is not the first time Enziu river has killed our people. At periodic times you will see individuals being carried by the river and nobody knows about it.

"The last time, in 2019, we lost five passengers inside a Probox. That is the time we went to Nairobi. We pleaded with the National government to help us. As we speak before that accident occurred we had planned with PS Maringa before Christmas we launch the bridge," Mr Mulyungi said.
PS Maringa said the government would first construct a drift to assist the locals for the short term.
“A drift will first be constructed for residents to use as the government continues with the tendering process for the main bridge which stretches up to 100 metres,” Maringa remarked.
The death toll from the Enziu River bus tragedy rose to 33 after more bodies were retrieved.
