President Uhuru Kenyatta has today unveiled Kenya Railways Customs Transit Shed in Nairobi County.

"You will not pay for the container deposit. You will come here, pay the taxes for your goods and pick them,” the President said during the unveiling.


Resident Kenyatta noted that the government is working to ensure all major towns in the country have a similar shed.

“Tutakuwa na sheds kama hii katika sehemu zingine za nchi. Kama wewe ni mfanyibiashara Nakuru, reli itakuletea mzigo wako hapo, uendelee na biashara yako,” he said.


According to Kenya Railways, operations at the transit shed will help reduce cost of operations for small scale traders who will now be able to self-clear their cargo coming from Mombasa via the rail at the facility within a day.
