ODM leader Raila Odinga's nephew Jaoko Oburu, the eldest son of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga, has dropped his interest in the Lang'ata parliamentary seat.
Jaoko, who is the Siaya County CEC in Charge of Roads, Public Works, thanked all his supporters who urged him to vie for the seat.
He stated that at the moment, he will focus on campaigning for and helping his uncle, Raila to clinch the presidency on August 9, 2022.
“I appreciate all the encouragement for me to throw my hat into the ring for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. At this point, however, I’m focused on helping Baba (Raila Odinga) to become the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.
Jaoko further urged youths across the country to turn up in large numbers and register as voters.
He is also the Chairman of YOTHA (Youth for The Handshake Alliance).
Oburu's son was seeking to dethrone incumbent MP Nixon Korir who is serving his first term. Korir was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket but has since decamped to UDA.
Korir will face off with Oscar Omoke, Silas Jakakimba, Fredrick Ndege also known as Serikal, and comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o.
Jalang'o has since joined ODM and will likely battle Omoke for the party's nomination ticket.
