Two people are nursing gunshot wounds after a vehicle they were travelling in was ambushed by suspected Al Shabaab militants at Lango la Simba area, Lamu County, on the evening of Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
Four other people managed to survive he ambush. The six were part of a court procession returning from a mobile court in Kipini.
According to reports, they were ambushed by the suspected militants at around 5 pm.
A charges sheet indicated that the six persons included Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich, Court Clerk Boy Njue, a representative from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Frank Sirima, police constables Moses Bett and Willis Mgendi, and driver Abel Barisa.
Rotich, Njue, Bett and Mgendi reportedly sustained minor bruises during the attack while Barisa and Sirima were shot in the right and left knee respectively.

Further reports indicate that the militants sprayed two vehicles belonging to construction company H Young with bullets before ambushing the court procession. Both vehicles were en route to Gamba from Witu.
One occupant of the vehicles scampered to safety in nearby thickets while the rest managed to manouvre through the ambush despite having flat tires.
According to reports, a multi-agency team from Witu and Tana Delta have since visited the scene and contained the situation.
The injured persons were rushed to Shuheyla Medical Center for treatment while the court officials' truck was taken to Witu Police Station.
