Mike Sonko had responded to Conjestina Achieng's son's distress call.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has updated Kenyans on the welfare of legendary boxer Conjestina Achieng' whose mental well-being had left many worried.

In July this year, her son reached out to Sonko who facilitated her admission to the Women Empowerment Network Hospital in Miritini, Mombasa county.

Now close to two months at the facility, Congestina has been able to positively respond to treatment, Sonko said.

He disclosed that the one-time Kenya's ace in boxing would be getting out of the rehabilitation centre soon.

"Kazi iendelee. Conjee is still alive and doing well at the Mombasa women's rehab. She will be discharged next week," said Sonko on Saturday, September 3.

At the same time, Sonko dispelled the rumours peddled on social media that Conjestina had died.

The boxer is hopeful of bouncing back to the ring to win a title before retiring from the sport.

During his visit, Sonko brought Conjestina boxing equipment.
