PS Julius Korir is accused of assaulting and injuring Evelyn Koech while she was pregnant.

A Nairobi court on Thursday, February 3, 2022, summoned Devolution Principal Secretary Julius Korir over an alleged assault.

The PS was summoned after the prosecution applied to have him charged over allegedly assaulting Evelyne Koech.

“We apply for summonses against the accused through the investigating officer to appear in court and plead to the charges," the prosecution told the court.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi ordered Korir to appear in court on February 10.

In the charge sheet presented before the court, Korir is wanted for allegedly assaulting Evelyne and causing her bodily harm.

According to reports, the incident occurred on September 17, 2020, at Ndalat Road Karen in Nairobi.

In 2021, Korir moved to the High Court to block his prosecution, but his petition was dismissed by Justice Anthony Mrima in November 2021 on grounds the State was right in mounting prosecution against.

He is accused of assaulting and injuring Evelyn Koech while she was pregnant.

Korir had sought to stop the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from arresting and prosecuting him over the alleged incident.

He termed it as illegal, in bad faith, and infringement on his constitutional rights.

“The petitioner has not shown how the DPP violated the Constitution by authorizing his prosecution. Further, if the court quashes or grants the orders sought, it will frustrate the rule of law,” Justice Mrima ruled.
